Download the Toolkit for new GMO-free Municipalities

Communities across Europe are stepping up to protect farmers, biodiversity, and the right to know what’s in our food. Today, we launch the Toolkit for new GMO-Free Municipalities, a practical resource designed to help citizens and local councils act against the deregulation of GMOs derived from New Genomic Techniques (NGTs).

As the EU debates removing safety checks, labelling, and traceability for New Genomic Techniques, municipalities still have real power. They can adopt political resolutions, protect organic and GMO-free farming, set clear public procurement rules, and demand transparency.

What’s inside the toolkit?

  • A ready-to-use model municipal resolution
  • Guidance on how to approach local officials
  • Arguments on contamination risks, patents, and farmers’ legal liability
  • A press release, communication materials, and the promotional video
  • Legal and political context, glossary, and resources

Why municipalities?

Because local governments are closest to citizens, farmers, and food systems. From school meals to land-use policies, municipalities can defend consumer choice, food sovereignty, and agroecology, and send a strong political message to national and EU decision-makers.

This toolkit is for:

  • Local activists and citizen groups
  • Farmers and organic networks
  • Councillors and mayors
  • NGOs working on food, environment, and democracy
